reLI in the News: Highlighting Our History and Leadership in New York’s Clean Energy Movement

Renewable Energy Long Island (reLI) was recently featured in The South Shore Press, which highlighted both the organization’s deep roots on Long Island and its continued leadership in advancing clean energy across New York State.

The article traces reLI’s origins back to a pivotal moment in Long Island’s energy history, when community members organized to hold utilities accountable and push for a cleaner, more transparent energy system. What began as a citizen-led watchdog effort eventually evolved into Renewable Energy Long Island, an organization dedicated to advancing renewable energy solutions and advocating for a more sustainable future. Today, that legacy continues to guide ReLI’s work as a trusted voice for clean energy across the region.

The feature also spotlights our Executive Director Melissa Griffiths Parrott and her leadership in New York’s climate movement. Since stepping into her role in 2023, Parrott has expanded reLI’s impact through advocacy, education, and partnerships that move clean energy forward at both the local and state level. Her work spans collaboration with municipalities, support for initiatives like the Long Island Clean Energy Hub, and engagement in coalitions advancing offshore wind and other renewable technologies.

Parrott’s long-standing commitment to climate action is also highlighted through her broader work in New York, including her role in founding Students for Climate Action and helping to advance major policies like the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA).
