New York’s Power Grid Is Feeling the Heat

During a July heat wave, nearly 10,000 residents in Southeast Queens lost power as high temperatures pushed electricity demand higher. In response, residents were encouraged to reduce energy use, including raising air conditioning temperatures, to help ease strain on the system.

These challenges are expected to grow as more New Yorkers transition to electric heating, vehicles, and appliances. At the same time, new industries and development are increasing demand for electricity. Building a stronger, more reliable grid will require investments in both infrastructure and clean energy solutions.
