Environmental groups praise Governor Cuomo for restarting process to bring clean energy ashore

ALBANY, NY (September 15, 2011)  New Yorks leading environmental organizations applauded Governor Cuomo today for taking action to restart the process for pursuing offshore wind energy. Today, a lease application was submitted for the Long Island  New York City Offshore Wind Project  a collaborative effort by New York Power Authority, Long Island Power Authority, and Con Edison to build an offshore wind farm 13 miles off the Rockaway Peninsula.  Read More...

 5/9/11: Report: Offshore Atlantic Wind is the Next Clean Energy and Jobs Wave

According to a report from the National Wildlife Federation which was cosponsored by reLI, offshore wind energy generation along the Atlantic coast is the next clean energy and jobs creator. But experts also say that a coordinated effort by government and the market is still needed to propel wind projects across the finish line.

The report finds up to six gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind projects have been proposed along the Atlantic coast - the equivalent of about five coal-fired power plants and enough to power about 1.5 million average U.S. homes. Based on government analysis, the Atlantic Ocean has significant offshore wind potential, with over 212 GW of wind resources in shallow waters where current technology is best suited. Read more...
